Deirdre McMahon

Deirdre McMahon is from Dublin but with family roots in the north-west of Ireland.

She has always been interested in languages and literature. After many years of teaching she completed an MA in Literary Translation, Writing, and Cultural Difference at the University of Warwick in 2017 and is beginning to work in literary translation.

She is particularly interested in children’s literature and poetry as well as literature by writers working in a second or subsequent language.

Her first book translation, a children’s book by Oliver Scherz, Nobody can stop Don Carlo, was published by Dedalus Books in February 2020. Her translation of the first sections of Carolina Schutti’s 2015 novella Eulen fliegen lautlos was Highly Commended in the 2020 John Dryden Translation Awards                                     (2020)
