Helen Nurse

A recent intern at New Books in German, Helen Nurse has been translating from German into English for over 30 years.

Following her degree in German language and literature, she lived in Düsseldorf for 14 years, qualifying as a translator in both the UK and Germany.

Before becoming a freelance translator and lecturer in translation studies, she worked as a staff translator at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and the Association of German Engineers (VDI). She has published translations on stem cell research, sociological theory, IT management, floristry and the Bauhaus, among others. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and The Translators Association of the Society of Authors. She is also a Modern Languages Teacher, teaching German and German Literature at an international boarding school in Bath. Her interest is in contemporary women’s writing.     (2022)
