Lydia Mischkulnig

Lydia Mischkulnig (b. 1963) is an Austrian writer who lives in Vienna.

Born in Klagenfurt, she studied Stage Design at the Univeristät für Musik & Darstellende Kunst Graz, and Screenplay and Production at the Filmakademie Wien. Her published work includes regular essays on art and culture in the Feuilleton and literary magazines, as well as novels and collections of short stories. She has given literary seminars and guest lectures at various institutions.

She is known as a writer of surreal and politically relevant pieces, using language that is distinctive in its tension and precision. Readers have praised her for her literary mastery in her humorous depictions of the absurdities of life, and she has won numerous prizes for her work, including the 2020 Würdigungspreis des Landes Kärnten für Literatur.     (2021)
