André Herzberg

André Herzberg, born in East Berlin in 1955, has been the lead singer of the well-known Pankow rock band since it was founded in 1981.

The son of Jewish parents, Herzberg only began to fully explore his Jewish identity after the fall of the Berlin Wall. His fiction draws heavily on his personal experience, telling stories about Jewish families in the GDR.

Herzberg’s work includes the short story collection Geschichten aus dem Bett (2000) and the novels Mosaik (2004) and Alle Nähe fern (2015). His most recent novel, Was aus uns geworden ist (2018), was accompanied by the release of an album with the same name.    (2019)
