Milena Oda was born in 1975 in Stara Paka in
the Czech Republic and studied German and history at the Palacky University
in Olomouc (CZ). In 1996 she received a scholarship abroad at the University
of Bayreuth. In 1999 she moved to Salzburg and in addition to her regular
seminars at the University also studied drama at the Mozarteum. She completed
her M.A. dissertation in 2001 in Olomouc (CZ) and Klagenfurt (Austria),
where she worked at the municipal theatre. After moving to Düsseldorf,
Germany, she continued working in the theatre as an artistic director
and began writing prose, as well as poetry, drama and journalism (Radio
WDR, Der Freitag, Prager Zeitung, Literární noviny etc.).
She has received numerous scholarships and awards and has participated
in prestigious competitions such as the Open Mike (2002) and the Ingeborg
Bachmann Competition (2007). Nennen Sie mich Diener (Call Me Servant)
is her first novel, appearing in Germany in 2011. She lives and works
in Berlin. (2010)
