Margot Bettauer Dembo is a professional
translator. Among the authors she has translated are Judith Hermann, Robert
Gernhardt, Joachim Fest, Ödön von Horvath, Feridun Zaimoglu, and
Hermann Kant. She was awarded the Goethe-Institut/Berlin Translator's Prize
in 1994 and the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator's Prize in 2003. Published
translations include Summerhouse, Later and Nothing But
Ghosts by Judith Hermann, The Swimmer by Zsuzsa Bank, and Hitler's
Bunker: The Final Days of the Third Reich by Joachim Fest. Dembo was
translator for two feature documentary films, The Restless Conscience,
nominated for an Academy Award, and The Burning Wall. (2006)
