Welcome to no man's land

Working together with Berlin's cult literary magazine lauter niemand, no man's land features first-ever translations of fiction and poetry by some of the finest young writers working in German today. no man's land (in German, "Niemandsland") plays on the name lauter niemand while evoking a virtual no man's land between languages and cultures - one which, like the former no man's land of the Berlin Wall, is now open for exploration. More than just an online literary magazine, no man's land is an information resource and forum for the German- and English-speaking literary communities in Berlin and beyond. Events Events ranging from readings to workshops are an integral part of no man's land, a way to bring German literature face-to-face with new audiences and create synergies between the German and English literary scenes.

lauter niemand The weekly lauter niemand open mike sessions have been a fixture of Berlin's alternative literary scene since 1996, leading to the discovery of young talents for the lauter niemand magazine. 10 years down the road, many of these writers count among the most highly acclaimed up-and-coming voices in German fiction and poetry. Join us every Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. in Fehre6, Fehrbelliner Straße 6, Berlin/Prenzlauer Berg for readings and criticism of original work in German, cheap drinks, foosball, literary feuds and arcane discussions on into the wee hours.

Willkommen im no man's land

"no man's land" präsentiert herausragende Stimmen der jungen deutschen Literatur in englischer Übersetzung. Die "no man's land"-Webpräsenz versteht sich nicht nur als Online-Literaturzeitschrift, sondern als Informationsressource und künftig auch als Forum für Begegnung und Austausch zwischen deutschsprachigen und englischsprachigen Autoren, Lesern und Übersetzern. Die Druckausgabe der Zeitschrift wird vor Ort in Deutschland sowie im Ausland vertrieben. Distribution partners "no man's land" ist ein Projekt der Berliner Autoreninitiative "lauter niemand", die 2006 mit einer Jubiläumsausgabe der Zeitschrift "lauter niemand" ihr 10-jähriges Bestehen feiert. Die sonntäglich stattfindenden offenen Lesungen des "literaturlabors" haben in der Berliner Literaturszene inzwischen Kultstatus: hier werden junge Talente nicht nur für die Zeitschrift "lauter niemand" entdeckt. Inzwischen werden viele dieser Entdeckungen als bedeutende Stimmen der jüngeren deutschsprachigen Literatur gefeiert. Für englischsprachige Leser wird "no man's land" der erste Zugang zu einer Literaturszene sein, die so lebendig und unkonventionell ist, wie die Stadt Berlin. Der Name des Projektes "no man's land" soll sowohl Anspielung auf "lauter niemand" sein als auch auf ein imaginäres Niemandsland zwischen den Sprachen und Kulturen, welches es zu erkunden gilt.
