English Books

	Amerika Gedenkbibliothek Berlin's only major library with open stacks. Extensive English-language section and foreign newspapers.
	Another Country "Another Country is an English Language Second Hand Bookshop that's mostly used as a library. We have about a thousand books for sale, around two thousand for rent and ten thousand that you can buy or borrow. … [The shop] is also a place propagating British culture, of free speaking, discussing, liberal thinking and, above all, reading!" Known for its science fiction section, hosts reading groups, film nights and dinners.

	East of Eden "East of Eden international bookshop is an independent second hand book shop in the heart of East Berlin. … With regular events (readings, exhibitions and live music) in our reading room and constant development of the shop and acquisition of new stock, we are slowly securing our place as a haven for hassled tourists and important resource for Berlin's residents."

Cultural Institutions/Institutions for Cultural Exchange

	American Academy "The American Academy in Berlin provides a unique bridge between Germany and America - a bridge created through the scholarship and creativity of distinguished individuals involved in cultural, academic, and public affairs." The Academy's fellows, including prominent American writers and artists, present their projects at public events.
	British Council "The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations." The Berlin office on Hackescher Markt hosts numerous readings with prominent British writers, among other events, and features a library, a film club, and reading groups.
	Einstein Forum "Through lectures, workshops and conferences which are open to everyone, the Einstein Forum serves a double function: to give the general public the opportunity to engage with major thinkers at work, and to encourage those thinkers to overcome traditional academic boundaries." Located in Potsdam, the Einstein Forum is headed by American philosopher Susan Neiman and features events with prominent international thinkers (often in English).
	Fulbright Commission Berlin office of the German-American Fulbright Commission, which offers research and project grants and exchange programs for Germans and Americans.
	Marshall Fund Berlin office of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. "The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a nonpartisan American public policy and grantmaking institution dedicated to promoting greater cooperation and understanding between the United States and Europe."
	RIAS Berlin "The RIAS BERLIN COMMISSION is a binational organization for the promotion of German-American understanding in the field of broadcasting … [It] promotes the exchange of persons and information in the field of broadcast journalism between the two countries [and] provides financial support and awards annual prizes to radio, television and new media productions which contribute to the mutual German-American understanding."

Independent Cultural Scene

	Berliner Grundtheater e. V. “The BGT is a Berlin based off-theatre company that has specialized in British plays and is always performing in English in different locations in the Berlin area.”
	Café Rosa Café and performance space for the English-speaking community with "some fantastic special events (Songwriter Festival, English language Poetry Festival) as well as our regular nights such as Talk to Strangers, Café Rosa Readings, Open Stage music and Concerts, with a Performance Open Stage starting in December 2005, not to mention our bi-monthly art exhibitions."
	Friends of Italian Opera Berlin's only English-language theater. "Founded in 1990 and named after the cover title of the mafia gathering in Billy Wilder´s classic comedy `Some Like It Hot´, Friends of Italian Opera has established a reputation as a unique venue for first-class English theatre."
	The TU English Drama Group “The Berlin TU English Drama Group is a class offered by the Literature department but also invites students of other departments, other universities and exchange students from abroad to participate, provided their English is good enough. In recent years the group has included students of a wide range of subjects, and foreign exchange students from all over the world.”

Events/Regular Festivals

	British Music Week Berlin
	Britspotting "britspotting - 'the British independent ?lm festival' was founded in the year 2000 in Berlin in order to screen innovative recent British ?lm productions unknown to German movie-goers." Held in Berlin each spring.
	English Comedy Night Once a month in the Kookaburra Club . "Come on in and join Kim along with a line-up of hilarious talent every third Tuesday of the month! You want laughs? Lunacy? Madness? Absolute insanity served with a side of fresh musical interludes? You got it! See you there!"
	Fuel Performance series on the second Sunday of each month in the Hotelbar Mitte, hosted by poet/performance artist Gaby Bila.
	International Literature Festival Berlin Held annually in September, featuring many prominent English-language authors. Website includes literature news in English.
	Poesiefestival International poetry festival held annually in June, also featuring English-language poets.
	Poetry Hearings Annual autumn festival for English-language poetry in Berlin, held in Café Rosa. "Poetry Hearings presents English language poets and poets in English translation, focusing on those based in continental Europe. Cutting across poetic divisions, the festival brings together writers working in diverse traditions: the mainstream, the experimental, the formal, the free-ranging, performance and prose poetry."

	The Berlin Paper Online journal with news articles, event listings and a city guide in English.
	Bordercrossing New literary magazine to appear December 2006. " 'Bordercrossing Berlin' will be primarily a showcase for Berlin-based writers in the English language, publishing new works, new writers, illustrated, beautified by black and white photography and drawing: challenging the writing scene in Berlin, and promoting it." Brought to you by the people at Café Rosa, where the associated "Checkpoints" readings series starts in May.
	ExBerliner "The English-language paper for Berlin" with articles, columns and events listings. Also sponsors the readings series "Mondays in Babylon" held regularly at the Babylon Mitte cinema with prominent English-speaking writers living in or visiting Berlin.
